Believe in Angels Week

Thank you for the amazing feedback to our Board-wide Civvies Day. We do hope to make this an annual event during Believe in Angels Week. As of this morning we have received contributions from 14 schools totalling $3,926. This is an awesome start. Cheques made payable to The Angel Foundation for Learning from the Board-wide Civvies day should be sent to The Angel Foundation for Learning – CEC via courier. I provide this information because we have had many requests regarding how to submit the money. Please send us any photos you have taken of your Civvies Day events that we can publish in our upcoming newsletter.

Ash Wednesday

As Catholics, today we celebrate Ash Wednesday and the beginning of the Lenten Season. During Lent we are called upon to pray, to fast and to give alms. I have attached a prayer that provides some alternatives to our traditional fasting. As for Almsgiving, perhaps now is the time to enrol in the Cents-off program or if you are already enrolled, consider changing your donation to a set amount instead of just the “cents.” See the attached flyer for further information.

Toronto Marlies

Thank you to all of the schools that will be attending the Marlies game next week. We have almost reached capacity at Ricoh Coliseum! It will be an amazing experience for our students and a great support for The Angel Foundation for Learning. We are looking forward to this event.

Student Nutrition Programs

As of September 2014, we have 154 student nutrition programs in TCDSB schools. If there is a SNP in your school, you have seen the benefits of feeding students. Research clearly shows that if students are sitting in classrooms hungry, they cannot focus and certainly cannot learn. Schools with programs have also reported that discipline issues are reduced.

The provincial government has recently announced an increase in Grants in order to open new SNPs in the City of Toronto.  Several of our schools that were provincially approved to start a nutrition program are not able to do so at this time. If your school would like to pilot a program starting in January 2015 or September 2015, please see the attached information or call David Letra, Community Relations Ext.2687 or  Tina Giustizia, Nutrition Program Manager Ext. 2194 for further information.
